All Art is Political Concert Series
About the Event
Musicians for Progress believes that all art is inherently political. Though the creator may not intend to have a political impact, all art is impacted by the creator’s socio-economic standing, environment, personhood, and lived experiences, regardless of what those experiences are/were. Therefore, we also believe in the power of art to be political.
As musicians, we play pieces from all different identities and from different parts of history, written during wars, during economic crises, during cycles of oppression and prolonged suffering, as well as from moments of joy, resilience, and resistance. In turn, we understand their history and meaning ourselves, weaving our own identity and experiences into our storytelling.
What We're Doing... And Why We're Doing It
Through this concert series, we bring you a selection of pieces that represent all these aspects in order to bring attention to the socio-political events occurring in our world today. Each of our concerts will raise money and awareness toward a specific cause, with the goal of using music to connect us - not only across history - but across borders, identities, and lived-experiences.
Music is a language in itself, and in it we find our acts of resistance.
